Winter Grace

The measured tones of winter are seasoning the light
that wakes a sky with layered streaks of grey
just faintly edged with whispers of forgotten blue,
like ancient streams that long since lost their way.
Through grey of trees and frame of snowy white
sleeps faded green in winter’s silver lake.
On wooded slopes still shadowed by the night
the first pale hints of dawn bring grace.
