Don’t Forget to Keep Your Fork
Heard a story that, factual or not, gave me chills.
A woman was in the last stages of cancer. She gave her minister a list of hymns and scriptures that she wanted for her funeral. At the bottom was an enigmatic note: “Don’t forget the fork.”
When the minister asked for clarification, she replied: “I want a fork placed in my hand in the casket. I want to be buried with it in my hand.”
Looking puzzled, the minister agreed to make sure this happened, but asked her to explain why.
She explained, “When I was young, at all our special family dinners, my dad would always say, ‘Don’t forget to keep your fork. The best is yet to come.’ “
