We and Our World are Unfinished

I’m an idealist. We imagine better possibilities. This life and everyone and everything are unfinished, so imperfect. Accepting this reality is hard for idealists. We have to settle for inching toward the perfect knowing we will never get there. At eighty-seven I still have to catch myself and remember to look for the goodie in every baddie in life. Sometimes they are tiny, but enough to help me move on. This is life: there is a downside and an upside to everything. That’s reality.  We have to settle for inching toward the perfect and never getting there. Since evolution is the name of the game though incredibly slow, inches are important. And no matter what our IQ is we are not going to be right 100% of the time because we are unfinished and imperfect human beings. Neither Einstein nor the Saints were perfect intellectually or humanly. So, a good dose of humility is not only important, but freeing.

  1. This is an important reminder. There really is a freedom to humility and accepting that we won’t see a perfect world.

    • I find a lot of truths easy to believe, but hard to live!! Sometimes it feels like I take one step forward and two back. Then I look further back and see how much water there has gone under the bridge that I’ve forgotten. “Hangeth in there” used to be my song. Now it’s “Persevere.” Sounds like the same song, but there’s a subtle but important difference. The first was static…just not losing ground. The second is focused on the goal. Thanks for joining me in my journey. Prayers coming your way. Eileen

      • I relate so much to this. When I first started this journey I did feel such excitement, as if knowing better would mean sudden changes. I’ve now accepted it’s a life long process- and I’m still making some of the same mistakes I was years ago….

But I agree with you, that subtle difference between the songs is everything. Trying to bring your values, passions, love, the good to life through how you live is a different path than just trying to survive. I’m incredibly grateful God woke me up from that old life.
