I Pray for Grace

to get it right now that I am old.
to give love and joy, never heartbreak.
to hold all lightly, free to let go.
to seek God’s hand when I suffer.
to forgive others and be forgiven.
to have faith there is some great purpose,
an after- life better than this one.
to while still in dark, believe in light.
and to go with hope into the night.

  1. Beautiful. Reminds me of a quote from Henri Nouwen I have on my refrigerator: Hope means to keep living amid desperation and to keep humming in the darkness.

And another one by someone else: Courage doesn’t always roar – sometimes it’s the still voice at the end of the day that says “I’ll try again tomorrow”. That’s what keeps me gong some days. I think old age is like Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill. We know we have to do it again tomorrow and it won’t be any easier, but the fact that God gives us the grace to do it gives it meaning. (Plus the goodies like grandchildren, mystery books and chocolate!)

    Love you, Myra
